  • Stella

This is my drawing of Stella, a liver and tan German Shepherd.  She’s lovely and has an easy going temperament.  It was a pleasure to do her portrait!

The drawing is on Fabriano Artístico hot pressed watercolour paper.  The pencils used are Faber Castell polychromos, Caran d’Ache luminance, Derwent coloursoft & lightfast pencils.

Reference photo is courtesy of Stella’s owners.

  • Corgi

Corgis are lovely little dogs.  I know three personally.  Two of them are Welsh Pembrokes and the other a Welsh Cardigan.  Although the two breeds differ in appearance the personality and temperament seem to be the same.  And they love to play!

  • Molly

I never got to meet Molly but I know her mum quite well.  She was a rescue and was lucky my friend gave her a good home.  Molly is sadly no longer with us but still in my friend’s heart.

  • Cat Nap

I don’t often get the chance to draw cats. A photo of a sleeping cat in Pixabay looked like a good subject to paint. I settled on doing the portrait in watercolour instead of coloured pencil. Photo credit: Kavowo

  • Best Friends

I often use reference photos from free stock sites like Pexels and Pixabay. This picture of the boy and his dog captured my interest as the subject for my next drawing. I’ve used coloured pencil on smooth bristol. A drawing takes longer to complete than watercolour but I love working in both mediums.

  • Jennifer’s Pony

I used to have a close friend and one of the things we had in common was our love of horses. Over time we lost touch. Life has a habit of doing that.

However I still have photos taken back in our day. This portrait is from one I intended on using as a reference for a painting. I changed it a little, making the halter red instead of the original blue in the photo.

I hope she still has some connection to horses as I do with my art.  But then most of us never really outgrow horses do we?

  • Mattie and Herbert

This is a wedding gift for the bride and groom of their pets, Mattie and Herbert.  I’ve met Mattie (who was on guard during the ceremony) and hope to meet Herbert soon.
